This post of yours really highlights how much of the “food equals love” mindset so prevalent in grandmas or aunties extends not only to human family but to pets, and contributed to animals being overweight so often.
Except instead of the genuine love and concern you get from gramma Carol who worries you don’t eat enough, it’s some random ass fucking lunatic stranger who insists you’re torturing your pet to death by not feeding it as much as it wants exactly when it wants it because they have no sense of portion control or hyperbole.
y’all know animals don’t know shit about portion control, right? sometimes pets need to watch what they eat just like people do. i’ve got my mini dachshund on smaller portions bc he jumped up to 18lbs when his ideal is 12. six pounds is a lot on a little dog.
This sweet baby’s name is Jax, but we commonly call him Flapjax bc he lays real flat like a pancake.
This morning we woke up to find him in great pain and we took him to the Vet to find out he has a urinary tract blockage, which has led to an abnormally low heart rate (like 100 instead of 170) and high potassium levels (9 something instead of 3). Now he needs to be on fluids, his urine drained through a catheter, and kept overnight to watch vitals and do continuous blood panels.
Anyway, all these medical procedures really add up and we’re looking at a potential $2,500 vet bill which we don’t have the money for, and unfortunately that puts him at risk for being put to sleep instead of getting treatment.

He’s really having a tough time. A stone was causing the blockage and they found a few more in an X-ray they are going to try to remove.

He is only 4 years old and is facing possible euthanization because of medical costs, which are climbing to $10,000 as it seems surgery is the only way he may be helped.
